City of Bandon – Mayor and City Council Elections

The next election for the Mayor and City Councilors will be held in November 2026.

When are elections for Mayor and City Councilors held?

• City Councilors are elected to four-year terms. Elections are staggered and held during the November General Elections (2024, 2026, etc.).
• The Mayor is elected to a two-year term, with elections held during each November General Election.

What are the qualifications for candidacy?

To qualify for elective office, prospective candidates must meet the following requirements: Full City of Bandon Charter, here.

1. Be a registered voter within the City of Bandon.
2. Have resided within the City of Bandon city limits for at least one (1) year immediately preceding the election.
3. Must maintain residency within the City of Bandon city limits throughout the term of office.

What is the filing process?

Prospective candidates must complete the following steps during the designated filing period:

• Complete and submit the Oregon Secretary of State Form SEL 101 (Candidate Filing Form) to the City Recorder.
• Once the initial filing is verified, the candidate will be authorized to begin collecting signatures.
• Collect a minimum of 25 valid signatures from registered voters within the City of Bandon. Candidates are encouraged to collect additional signatures beyond the minimum requirement in case any signatures are determined to be invalid.
• Submit the completed nomination petition and signature sheets by the filing deadline.
• If the required number of valid signatures is verified by the deadline, the nomination petition is considered complete, and the candidate will be placed on the ballot.

Filing Deadlines – November General Election (2026)

State election law establishes separate filing deadlines for incumbent and non-incumbent candidates. To allow sufficient time for signature verification by the Coos County Elections Office, the City of Bandon requires petitions to be submitted to the City Recorder by the city submission deadline.

Incumbent Candidates

First Day to File: June 3, 2026
City Submission Deadline: August 11, 2026, by 5:00 p.m.
State Filing Deadline: August 18, 2026, by 5:00 p.m.

Completed petition forms and signature sheets must be submitted to the City Recorder by the City submission deadline. This provides adequate time for the County Elections Office to verify signatures prior to the statutory filing deadline.

New Candidates (Non-Incumbents)

First Day to File: June 3, 2026
City Submission Deadline: August 11, 2026, by 5:00 p.m.
State Filing Deadline: August 25, 2026, by 5:00 p.m.

Completed petition forms and signature sheets must be submitted to the City Recorder by the City submission deadline. This ensures the County Elections Office has sufficient time to verify signatures and certify candidates for placement on the November General Election ballot.
