Bandon Housing Needs Analysis

In 2022, the City of Bandon released a Request for Proposals (RFP) to help the City prepare an update to the existing Housing Needs Analysis that was adopted as part of our Comprehensive Plan in the early 1990s and last updated in 2003. The city selected FCS Group, a consultant team that provides economic, land use, and infrastructure technical expertise to the public sector.

Transportation System Plan Update

Bandon’s Transportation System Plan (TSP) guides improvements to the City's transportation system to address current and future needs of everyone who travels in or through Bandon. Bandon’s TSP was completed in 2000, and much has changed since then: more people have moved to Bandon, there is more tourism, and travel needs and preferences have changed. This project will update the TSP to reflect the current and future needs of everyone who lives, works, and goes to school in Bandon, as well as managing the impacts of tourism on the City’s streets.

Bandon Housing Code Audit and Update

During the 2024 legislative session, via SB 1537, the State's Housing Accountability and Production Office (HAPO) was appropriated funds for the purpose of providing technical assistance and grants to local governments to comply with housing laws, reduce permitting and land use barriers to housing production, and support reliable and effective implementation of local procedures and standards relating to the approval of residential development projects.

Beaches Dunes Goal 18

The City is updating its Goal 18 (Beaches & Dunes) mapping and adopting implementing ordinance language. The update uses new DOGAMI mapping (2024) and DLCD model language tailored to local conditions to reflect current coastal hazards, sea-level rise considerations, dune grading practices, and vegetation protections.

Old Town Streetscape Plan

The City of Bandon is developing a future Streetscape Plan to guide the revitalization of Old Town and enhance its coastal character. The plan envisions safer, more walkable streets, improved lighting and signage, expanded public gathering spaces, and upgraded landscaping and furnishings. Proposed concepts include reconfiguring 1st and 2nd Streets, adding pocket parks and outdoor dining areas, and improving parking and pedestrian connections.

South Jetty Student Project

City Staff partnered with a student team from the University of Oregon’s Institute for Policy Research and Engagement on a project that will address issues related to natural hazards on the South Jetty and develop a concept path for walking trails around Redmon Pond. The project will develop outreach and education materials, identify potential strategies for dealing with stormwater, and address some of the concerns heard by residents after the earlier tsunami scare.
