During the 2024 legislative session, via SB 1537, the State's Housing Accountability and Production Office (HAPO) was appropriated funds for the purpose of providing technical assistance and grants to local governments to comply with housing laws, reduce permitting and land use barriers to housing production, and support reliable and effective implementation of local procedures and standards relating to the approval of residential development projects.
The City of Bandon was fortunate to be the recipient of these funds for a Housing Code Audit and Update, which began in early 2025. The City is working with the consulting firm, Cascadia Partners, Inc., on a project that will update the Bandon Municipal Code to facilitate housing production, affordability, and choice. Code updates are anticipated to reduce barriers to building a variety of housing types, particularly housing that is more likely to be affordable to middle- and lower-income households, such as middle housing and multifamily housing. Additionally, the updates will ensure the code follows key housing-related state statutes and administrative rules. The
code update may also include reorganization and simplification of the code to ensure it is clear and user-friendly.
